Network Infrastructure Upgrade for a Rapidly Expanding Business

Over the course of two years, one of our clients experienced rapid business growth, expanding across multiple buildings. While this was a positive story for the business, their IT network had been built on an ad hoc basis, with switches added whenever a new connection was needed. As the network grew more complex, stability began to suffer. Staff were experiencing frequent outages, devices were failing to connect, and the system could no longer cope reliably with day-to-day demands. That’s when they turned to Evolvit.

The Challenge

By the time we were called in, the network was holding the business back. Staff were losing valuable time trying to reconnect, shared resources weren’t always available, and unreliable connectivity was causing increasing frustration. Diagnosing the cause of the issues was particularly difficult because of the way the network had developed:

• There were no records of cabling routes or switch locations
• Multiple unmanaged switches had been added over time with no central oversight
• Devices were struggling to obtain IP addresses through DHCP, causing frequent connection failures

In short, the business was operating on a fragile network with no visibility of what was happening behind the scenes. They needed not just a quick fix, but a complete infrastructure upgrade that would support their future growth.

The Solution

We began by recommending a full replacement of the switching infrastructure, introducing managed Unifi switches across the entire network. Unlike unmanaged hardware, these devices gave us visibility and control through a central management console – allowing us to monitor performance, identify issues quickly, and configure the system for long-term stability.

As soon as the new switches were installed, the root causes became clear:

• A network loop was generating infinite traffic, flooding the system and effectively shutting it down
• Poor-quality cabling was contributing to intermittent faults
• Duplicate IP addresses were creating conflicts across the network

With visibility restored, we were able to resolve each of these issues and restructure the network. We also introduced VLAN segmentation, dividing the infrastructure into separate logical networks. This ensured traffic could flow smoothly, bottlenecks could be avoided, and critical services always had the bandwidth they required.

In addition to stabilising performance, this upgrade laid the foundations for proactive management: the new hardware enabled Evolvit to continuously monitor the network and prevent small issues from becoming business-critical problems.

The Outcome

The transformation was immediate. Staff could connect reliably, data transfer speeds improved, and the frustration of constant outages disappeared. The business was finally able to operate on a fast, stable, and secure network that could keep pace with its growth.
